A safety feature that lets Bumble members share their date details directly from the app with someone they trust.
Share Date launched shortly before I left Bumble, so I haven’t monitored the full impact, but the signal from user testing and interviews was strong. Users found the language clear and easy to understand, and critically, the messaging didn’t feel alarming or make them think something might go wrong. For a safety feature that needed to feel supportive without being scary, that was exactly the right response.
Going on a first date with someone you’ve met online can feel daunting, and research shows that most people already share their date details with friends or family before they go. Share Date makes this easier, letting Bumble members share their date details directly from the app, so the people they trust always know where they are and who they’re with. I led the content design and messaging strategy for this safety feature, working across the full journey from early concepts through to launch-ready strings.
Led content design end-to-end, owning all UX strings and ensuring the tone struck the right balance: warm and functional.
Defined the messaging strategy, drawing on customer insights to frame Share Date as something that makes an existing behaviour easier, rather than a response to risk.
Mapped the user journey to identify every content touchpoint across the flow, ensuring the experience felt coherent and considered at each step.
Led the naming process, including namestorming and facilitation sessions, before working closely with legal and safety teams to vet the final name and ensure the feature was represented accurately (particularly important given its safety context).
User insight 1
We knew people already share information with friends and family, so we leant into how Bumble could make this easier, e.g. no more having to take screenshots of your match’s profile.
Tone of voice
Warm simplicity. This is a safety feature, so we had to make functionality as clear as possible, while sounding supportive, and not over-promising.

In user testing, some first draft messaging was alarming to people because it made them immediately think about bad outcomes of a date. So we avoided any language that made it seem like Bumble thought something might go wrong on an IRL date.

We needed to avoid any language that alluded to guaranteed safety or security.
Introducing the feature
Detects when phone numbers are exchanged and prompts users with functional, succinct content, leading with user benefit rather than language that might overpromise, like "safer dates."
Sharing date details
Pulls the name and age from a match's profile, lets users review details before sharing, and hands off to their usual apps to send.
